Traditional Nuc, May 2011

Starting at: $100.00

We are taking orders for 2011.

These nucs are traditional nucs meaning that they were made from splits of existing thriving colonies.  Because their stock came from thriving colonies the chances are better that you too will have hardy bees.

Nucs made up this way will outperform nucs made from hiving packages (our competition's method). Why? Because the nuc is established going into the spring and growing to full strength for the summer without setbacks.  When you start a package as a nuc, its population declines for several weeks until the queen is accepted, released, laying, and her first brood hatches.  Even then, several more weeks must pass before the first hatch becomes forager bees who can gather nectar and pollen for the colony.  A traditional nuc is well established going into the spring and doesn't suffer from this setback. Traditional nucs will often produce honey the first year.
